3 Steps to Stop Procrastinating |
Posted: February 7, 2017 |
"I'll do it in 5 minutes. OK no, I'll do it tomorrow, tomorrow will be easier". A common thought amongst procrastinators. Don't worry, you're not the only one. The vast majority of the world population are procrastinators. That's why it is a tiny number of people who are living their dream lives. Because they're just one of the very few who got off their butt and started doing the work to follow their dreams. If obesity levels are rising in developed countries is not only because of the increasing availability of junk food, but also because as a society we've grown lazier. Technology has made it easier for us to get our things done and so we know and feel like there's less effort to move and do our things. But procrastination is not only the producer of overweight people, it's also the murderer of dreams. Why are you not doing what you love doing? Because you think that tomorrow will be better, that tomorrow will be easier, that tomorrow will bring the solution to your problems. Well… news flash, tomorrow never comes. Therefore you need to stop procrastinating. And here are three steps to start taking to put an end to it. 1. Think of todayWhen you feel tempted to leave anything for later (this includes tomorrow or five minutes) just focus on the present, and keep in mind that later won’t be any easier. You’ll just be delaying the task and in the meantime you’ll feel uncomfortable because you know that you have to do it. Do it NOW! The only moment that you must do things is NOW. 2. Think of the benefits of doing it NOWWe tend to postpone what makes us feel uncomfortable and succumb under instant gratification Focus on the benefits that it would bring getting your things done. Going for a run, fixing that wall, writing that book, cleaning your room. Focus on the positive, this will create a pleasurable feeling that can push you to getting it done. 3. Start doing itWhatever it is that you have to do just do it! Don’t overthink it. Get your body moving and start doing it. The hardest part of starting a task is the beginning, it’s getting your mindset and your body to synchronize and get to work. If you have homework to do right now, close this tab and get going.
